Zimbabwe: Hippo’s sugar production down by 11 per cent

Zimbabwe: Sugar production in Hippo Valley Estate Limited was recorded 2,12,004 tonnes in 2020 as against 2,38,965 tonnes in 2019, which is down by 11 per cent.

According to the Hippo, the reduction has resulted due to the reduction in the cane output as well as lower cane quality.

During 2020 the company crushed total 16,96,000 tonne of cane including 1009,000 tonne of company and rest by the local farmers. In 2019, the company crushed 10,68,000 tonnes cane of its own and 7940,00the tonne cane supplied by farmers.

The company also witnessed a reduction in 14% sugar sale during the review period from 4,83,000 tonnes to 4,13,000 tonnes.
