54 sugar mills commence crushing operations in Maharashtra

Sugarcane crushing season in Maharashtra has commenced amid FRP controversy and by November 1, the mills have produced 13.32 lakh quintals of sugar by crushing 18.35 lakh tonnes (lt) sugarcane with recovery rate of 7.26 per cent. Around 54 sugar mills have kickstarted the crushing operation.

According to the news report published in The Hindu Business Line, of the total 54 sugar mills that have started operations, 30 are from Kolhapur and Pune region, the sugar bowl of the state. Total 31 sugar mills in the cooperative sector and 23 mills in the private sector are operating as of now.
