Maharashtra: Sugarcane farmers protest outside sugar mill

Latur, Maharashtra: Sugarcane farmers along with the local BJP workers staged a demonstration in front of the Manjara sugar factory in Latur district on Monday demanding fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane.

According to the media report, Ramesh Karad, MLC and the district unit head of BJP who led the protest said, “The farmers should get paid as per government rule. They must get adequate compensation for their hard work and sugarcane rate as per the FRP mechanism. We will not tolerate injustice to farmers.”

Recently, the Supreme Court sought response from the Centre and State governments on a plea seeking appropriate directions to pay the pending dues to the sugarcane producers.
