Sugarcane farmers to launch agitation at Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday demanding hike in FRP

According to the media report, sugarcane farmers across the state will march towards the Vidhana Soudha on Tuesday as a part of their protest against the meager hike in the fair and remunerative price (FRP) for sugarcane.

The farmers have stated that the mere hike of FRP by Rs 5 for 2021-22 season is not sufficient to cover the increased input costs for the sugarcane crop. The government should hike FRP to at least Rs 350. Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the Sugarcane Growers Association will lead the agitation.

As per news report published in deccanherald.com, he said, “The government should bring in a law to ensure that the sugar mills share the profit earned from selling ethanol and other byproducts to the cane farmers.”
