Maharashtra: 134 sugar mills fail to pay 100 per cent FRP

Pune: Sugarcane crushing season is at the final stage in Maharashtra and as many as 134 sugar mills in the state have failed to clear 100 per cent FRP to the cane growers.

A total of 207 sugar mills participated in the crushing operations this season and among these 73 mills have paid full FRP to the cane farmers. The mill owed FRP worth Rs 2,658 crore till February end of 2023. Around 67 mills cleared 80 to 99 per cent of the cane dues, 39 mills have cleared dues up to 60-79 per cent and 28 mills have cleared 59 per cent of the FRP to the cane farmers.

Sugar mills in the state have crushed 876 lakh tonnes of sugarcane till February end and procured cane worth 27,443 crores. The mills have so far cleared RS 25,399 crores.
