Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh has reported a 40% increase in ethanol during the 2022-23 financial year, reports The Times of India.
Total ethanol production in the state has been reported at 133.29 crore litres, as per the data released by the excise department.
There are 85 distilleries in the state that are producing ethanol and the number is steadily increasing.
Sanjay Bhoosreddy, additional chief secretary of the department said, “The state produced 42.69 crore litre ethanol during the 2016-17 fiscal year. The improved ease of doing business in last four years and to help sugar mills to clear cane payments of the farmers, a total of 31 new distilleries have been set up in private as well as cooperative sector.”
The officials stated that the sugar mills in the state have cleared more than 75% of the cane dues to the farmers.
