Tamil Nadu : Kallakurichi co-operative sugar mill targets 3.35 lakh tonnes of cane for 2025–26 season

Kallakurichi: The Kallakurichi Co-operative Sugar Mill plans to crush 3.35 lakh tonnes of sugarcane during the 2025–26 crushing season, Tourism Minister R. Rajendran announced on Thursday during an inspection of the mill at Moongilthuraipattu, reports The Hindu.

Reviewing operations with mill officials, the Minister noted that 28,228 farmers are currently registered with the mill. In the previous 2024–25 season, the mill processed 2,62,664 tonnes of sugarcane, achieving an average sugar recovery rate of 8.37%.

This season, sugarcane cultivation across 9,273 acres has been registered with the mill, which is now gearing up for increased production.

Mr. Rajendran also highlighted the Tamil Nadu government’s continued support to cane farmers, stating that over the last four years, ₹1,145 crore had been disbursed as special incentives to more than 6 lakh farmers supplying to sugar mills across the state.

He further assured that steps will be taken to regularise the services of temporary workers at the Kallakurichi co-operative mill and improve infrastructure and facilities at the site.
