Tiruchy: Sugarcane farmers have been urged to increase the area under cultivation to boost production and ensure longer operational periods for sugar mills. The appeal was made by Raman, Chief Administrative Officer of Kurungulam Arignar Anna Sugar Mills, during an interactive meeting with farmers held at Vilar in Thanjavur on Saturday, reports DTNEXT.
The meeting, chaired by Raman, brought together officials and farmers for discussions on improving crop health and addressing challenges in sugarcane farming. One of the key issues raised was the growing difficulty in applying pesticides due to labour shortages.
To overcome this problem, officials recommended the use of drones for spraying pesticides. Raman noted that with the decreasing availability of manpower, drone technology offers an efficient and practical solution for managing crop diseases.
He further encouraged farmers to expand their cultivation area, highlighting that increased sugarcane production would help mills operate for longer periods and meet their production targets.
