Domestic Market

Domestic sugar prices inched higher; Lower monthly quota than last year

Domestic sugar prices in the major markets were reported to be sharply higher on the back of lower monthly quota. Prices in the major markets of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka were reported to be higher by Rs 30-40 per quintal..

The Food Ministry has released the monthly quota for the month of July. As per the update, quota was reported at 22 lakh tons, lower by 1.0 lakh tons compared to the previous month and by 2.0 lakh tons compared to the previous year. Lower monthly quota has led to sharp increase in prices in the spot markets.

M-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,930 and Rs 3,980 per quintal in Muzaffarnagar, whereas S-grade sugar costs between Rs 3,730 and Rs 3,780 in Kolhapur.

International Market

At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #5 front month contract is trading at $472.70 ton, whereas the New York Sugar #11 front month contract is trading at 15.74 c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 413-4 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 4.64500s

Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices

The rupee traded against the US dollar at 85.732 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.5455 Crude WTI traded at $65.25 barrel. Sensex closed 1,000.36 points up at 83,755.87 whereas Nifty closed 304.25 points higher at 25,549.00
