Bihar: All sugar mills in West Champaran clear 100 per cent cane dues in 2024–25 season

The Union Government informed the Lok Sabha that all five sugar mills operating in the West Champaran district of Bihar have made full payments to farmers for sugarcane supplied during the 2024–25 crushing season, as well as for previous seasons.

Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya, the Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution while answering about cane payment in West Champaran said, “As per the Govt. of Bihar, all the five sugar mills of West Champaran have made 100% payment of sugarcane price in the crushing season 2024-25 and earlier seasons.”

“The State Government has not received any complaints regarding irregularities in weighing and exploitation of farmers by sugar mills in West Champaran in crushing season 2024-2025,” she further added.

According to sources, around Rs. 3 crore in cane dues remain pending in Bihar for the current season (as of 31st July 2025).

With the 2025–26 crushing season approaching, the government’s statement sets a positive tone for continued cooperation between farmers, mill owners, and authorities.
