Mandya DC warns of strict action if sugar factories fail to make cane payments within 14 days

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner of Mandya Kumar has warned sugar factories in the district to clear their pending dues to sugarcane farmers without further delay and also directed to make cane payments within 14 days, reports The Hindu.

At a meeting with officials on Monday, Kumar said several farmers had raised complaints that sugar factories were not paying them on time. He instructed mills to make payments within 14 days of receiving sugarcane and to submit a status report on the payments made.

Officials have been directed to closely monitor these payments and issue notices to factories that fail to meet the deadline. Kumar also cautioned that strict action will be taken against units that do not comply with the 14-day payment rule.

“Farmers should not be forced to run from pillar to post to get their payments,” he said.

Joint Director of the Department of Food and Civil Supplies Prateek Hegde, Assistant Director Srinivas, Manager Renuka, and other officials attended the meeting.
