Pakistan: sugar mills urge government to reopen online sales portal, warn of market disruption

The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has urged the federal government to take urgent action after the closure of the Federal Board of Revenue’s (FBR) S-Track portal disrupted sugar sales, reports Profit.

In its third letter to the finance and national food security ministers, the PSMA called for immediate intervention to unblock the portal and lift restrictions that are preventing the smooth transfer of sugar from mills to the market.

A PSMA spokesperson said the association has repeatedly raised concerns about the impact of the portal’s closure on sugar sales. “The portal has been switching on and off intermittently over the past few weeks, a situation we have never seen before, which is making it increasingly difficult for the industry to operate efficiently,” the spokesperson added.
