The Himachal Pradesh government is preparing to establish a sugar mill in the Nurpur area of Kangra district. A formal proposal for the project has been submitted, marking a step toward boosting the state’s agro-industrial development.
A committee has been formed to assess the fair market value of sugar mills located along the Punjab border. This evaluation will help the government frame a balanced industrial policy while protecting the state’s interests, reported Dainik Jagran.
The committee will oversee all assessment tasks related to potential industrial investment and production activities connected with the project.
Officials stated that the proposed sugar mill is expected to create new employment opportunities for local residents. It will also benefit sugarcane farmers in the region by ensuring better prices for their produce, potentially encouraging more farmers to cultivate sugarcane.
The committee will study all necessary aspects before finalising the market value and policy recommendations. Committee’s findings will play a key role in determining a fair valuation of sugar mills near the Punjab border and in shaping future investment decisions, as per the news report.
The project is seen as a step toward strengthening the rural economy, promoting industrial diversification, and supporting the agricultural community in Himachal Pradesh.
