Sensex, Nifty closed higher on December 4 amid volatility.
Sensex ended 158.51 points higher at 85,265.32, whereas Nifty concluded 47.75 points up at 26,033.75.
The benchmarks opened lower, extending their losing streak for a fifth straight session, but soon recovered on value buying in large-cap stocks. Both indices erased early losses and edged into positive territory, supported by strength in IT, metals, auto, and financial stocks.
Rupee recovered to 89.92 against US Dollar on December 4 after falling as low as 90.42 earlier in the day.
In the previous season, Sensex ended 31.46 points lower at 85,106.81, whereas Nifty concluded 46.20 points down at 25,986.00.
