BPCL wins award for 2G–1G integrated bio-ethanol refinery in Odisha

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), a government-owned oil and gas company, has received the National Project Excellence Award (NPEA) 2025 in the “One of its Kind” category. The award honours BPCL’s 2G–1G Integrated Bio-Ethanol Refinery in Bargarh, Odisha, recognising the project’s innovative integrated design and excellence in execution.

The accolade was presented during the 33rd Global Symposium and 7th World Project Management Forum Meet 2025, held in New Delhi.

The Bargarh refinery marks a major advancement in sustainable fuel production. By combining second-generation (2G) and first-generation (1G) bio-ethanol technologies, the facility aims to enhance efficiency, optimise resource use, and promote eco-friendly fuel alternatives.

The award highlights the project’s innovative design, planning, and execution, positioning the refinery as a benchmark for biofuel projects across India.

BPCL credited the successful implementation of the project to the dedication and teamwork of its E&P Biofuels team, while also acknowledging the guidance and support of company leadership in achieving key project milestones.

The company is now focusing on commissioning the 2G plant, which is expected to make a significant contribution to India’s biofuel capacity and broader sustainable energy goals.
