Domestic sugar prices were steady to weak
Domestic sugar prices were reported steady to weak across major markets. Prices declined by ₹5–10 per quintal in Uttar Pradesh, while they remained largely unchanged in Maharashtra and northern Karnataka after a continuous fall since the start of the crushing season. In Maharashtra, mills have produced around 4.5 MMT of sugar so far, with an average recovery of 8.7%, and about 193 mills currently in operation. Sugar recovery levels are reported to be marginally higher compared with the same period last year.
Trade sources indicated that demand continues to remain strictly need-based, as crushing operations are progressing smoothly across major producing states, ensuring comfortable availability of supplies. In addition, the widening gap between lower export realizations and relatively higher domestic prices is expected to keep overall market sentiment under pressure in the near term.
Spot prices in key physical markets reflected this subdued tone. In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, M-grade sugar was quoted in the range of ₹3,930–₹4,000 per quintal. Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, S-grade sugar traded marginally lower at ₹3,580–₹3,640 per quintal, extending the gradual downward trend seen over the past few sessions.

At the time of writing this update London White Sugar #The 5 front month contract is trading at $432.70 ton, whereas the New York Sugar # 11 The front month contract is trading at 15.19 c/lb. The corn futures market trades at 442-0 and the ethanol Chicago trades at 1.65500s.
Currency, Commodity & Indian Indices
The rupee traded against the US dollar at 89.830 whereas USD was trading with BRL at 5.5306 Crude WTI traded at $58.32 a barrel. Sensex closed 20.46 points down at 84675.08 whereas Nifty closed 3.25 points lower at 25938.85
