Domestic sugar prices were reported weak
Domestic sugar prices were reported weak across major markets, with prices declining by ₹5–10 per quintal in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Northern Karnataka. The weakness comes after a continuous downtrend since the start of the crushing season, largely driven by comfortable supply conditions and subdued demand.
According to the latest data released by the Indian Sugar and Bio-energy Manufacturers Association (ISMA), Indian mills have produced 11.9 million metric tonnes (MMT) of sugar up to 31 December 2025. A total of 504 mills are operational this season, compared with sugar production of 9.54 MMT and 492 mills operating during the same period last season, highlighting a significant year-on-year increase in output.
Spot prices in key physical markets reflected this subdued sentiment. In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, M-grade sugar was quoted in the range of ₹3,920–₹3,990 per quintal. Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, S-grade sugar traded marginally lower at ₹3,575–₹3,630 per quintal, extending the gradual downward trend observed over the past few sessions.
