Deputy Commissioner Aparajita on Friday chaired an executive meeting at the Kaithal cooperative sugar mill and later reviewed the sugar production process.
Interacting with farmers in the mill area, she encouraged them to move away from traditional sugarcane farming practices and adopt modern cultivation methods. She said advanced techniques could help cut costs, save time and ensure better use of resources, ultimately improving crop yield. She also stressed that the mill management should work towards expanding the sugarcane cultivation area and motivate more farmers to take up cane planting.
During the inspection, the DC directed officials to make concerted efforts to reduce production costs and emphasised the need to upgrade machinery, noting that improved equipment could enhance production and help the mill recover from losses. She also underscored the importance of employee safety, instructing staff to use helmets and other protective gear to prevent accidents.
Mill Managing Director Krishan Kumar informed the DC that the management was taking all possible steps to increase the area under sugarcane cultivation. He added that an online token system had been introduced to facilitate farmers, significantly reducing their waiting time while delivering cane to the mill.
