Farmers’ protest over starting of Baitalpur sugar mill continues

Devariya: The protest demanding the reopening of the Baitalpur sugar mill, along with a 16-point list of demands, continued for the 338th consecutive day on Friday at the Collectorate premises, reports Live Hindustan.

Farmers, under the banner of the Chini Mill Chalao Sangharsh Samiti, the Sanyukt Panchayat Nikay Morcha and the Sanyukt Maha Morcha, gathered at the protest site and raised slogans in support of their demands.

Sangharsh Samiti president Brijendra Mani Tripathi said farmers, who form the backbone of an agriculture-based country, are being forced to sit on protest to seek fulfillment of their demands, but the government has shown no seriousness. He recalled that Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced on four occasions during public meetings in the district that a sugar complex would be set up in Baitalpur. However, he said there has been no visible progress towards restarting the Baitalpur sugar mill so far.

He warned that if the process to restart the sugar mill is not initiated soon, farmers would be compelled to come out on the streets and intensify their agitation.
