Domestic Market
Domestic sugar price rose sharply
Domestic sugar prices were reported sharply higher by Rs 40-60 per quintal across major markets. Prices rose sharply in Maharashtra compared to Uttar Pradesh. Reports of lower sugar production, particularly from Maharashtra and Karnataka, due to excess rainfall is supporting the prices in the spot markets. Additionally, recovery rates are now expected to be lower than initially anticipated, which could further tighten supply.
In Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, M-grade sugar was quoted in the range of ₹4,030–₹4,150 per quintal, higher by Rs 20-30 per quintal compared to the previous session. Meanwhile, in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, S-grade sugar traded at ₹3,660–₹3,740 per quintal, higher by Rs 50-60 per quintal versus the last session.
