Steady sentiment continued in Domestic sugar price
Domestic sugar prices continue to show firmness, with rates hovering near a three-month high. The strength is being driven more by sentiment than by a spike in immediate demand. Market participants are reacting to expectations of a possible increase in the sugar MSP, along with growing trade talk that production may come in lower than earlier estimates, particularly in Maharashtra and Karnataka. These supply-side concerns are keeping mills confident and discouraging aggressive selling, even though current offtake is described as normal rather than exceptional.
In north India, prices at Muzaffarnagar held steady. M-grade sugar was quoted at ₹4,030–₹4,140 per quintal, unchanged from the previous session. In western India, the trend was similar. At Kolhapur, a key benchmark market, S-grade sugar traded in the ₹3,690–₹3,780 per quintal range, also steady day on day. Although Maharashtra is among the states where lower output is anticipated, present physical availability appears adequate, preventing any sharp short-term price spike.
Overall, the market undertone remains firm, supported mainly by expectations of tighter future supply and possible policy support rather than by any sudden jump in spot demand. If production estimates decline further or an MSP revision is officially announced, sentiment could turn more bullish. Otherwise, prices may continue to consolidate around these elevated levels in the near term.
