Baghpat: Managing Director of the Uttar Pradesh Sugar Mills Association, Isha Duhun, conducted an inspection at a sugar mill following repeated complaints about mechanical faults disrupting operations, Amar Ujala reported.
During the visit, she held the chief engineer responsible for the recurring problems and directed General Manager Pradeep Kumar to submit a detailed report to the office so that action could be taken against the officials and staff found responsible.
Duhun said it is the responsibility of the chief engineer to ensure that machines, boilers and other equipment in the mill are maintained properly. She noted that the mill is currently receiving higher quantities of sugarcane and that any shutdown of the unit causes inconvenience to farmers who bring their cane for crushing.
Expressing displeasure over the repeated breakdowns, she instructed the management to identify those responsible and submit a report.
During the inspection, she reviewed the condition of key units of the mill, including the boiler, boiling house, sugar warehouse, molasses tanks, bagasse yard and the cane carrier system.
Duhun also pointed out that the sugarcane being received at the mill is slightly hard and advised the staff to ensure adequate use of maceration water so that the boiler system functions smoothly without disruption.
She also warned of strict action if negligence is found in the storage of sugar. The inspection was attended by mill vice-chairman Krishan Pal Singh, chief chemist P K Mittal, chief engineer S K Verma and other officials.
