Bangladesh government to fix sugar prices

In an attempt to contain soaring prices, the Bangladesh government has decided to fix sugar rates in the domestic market, reports local media.

In the past month, the price of sugar has increased by 10 per cent and refined sugar is sold at Tk 88-90 per kg, as per the TCB data.

Commerce minister Tipu Munshi had convened a meeting with officials and representatives of law enforcement agencies and business leaders to discuss the issue and made this announcement on Tuesday.

Traders are taking advantage of the dollar price hike and increasing the prices of some commodities including sugar, he said.
