BKU launches agitation against pending cane dues

Rampur/Bijnor: Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) launched a state-wide agitation for the pending cane arrears on Monday. Hundreds of activists and farmers came on the road to participate in a dharna at the premises of district collectorates in the state. They have threatened to celebrate Diwali festival in the premises of the collectorate if their demands are not met.

Farmers accompanied with their bullock carts and tractors with trolleys gathered at the collectorate in Rampur and launched an agitation.
According to the news report published in The Times of India, Haseeb Ahmad, district president BKU said, “Farmers have been in financial distress since the pandemic outbreak and lockdown. Due to the pending cane dues, they don’t have enough fund to meet their daily needs.”

BKU has asked sugar mills to clear the cane dues on priority basis.
