Haryana: Farmers to hold protest to increase sugarcane price

Gohana, Haryana: Farmers affiliated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) will protest on October 19 to demand higher sugarcane prices, reported Amar Ujala.

BKU state vice president Satyawan Narwal said that the state government has not increased sugarcane prices in recent years, which has caused anger among farmers. Currently, farmers are getting Rs 372 per quintal for sugarcane, which is not enough to cover their costs.

The BKU is demanding that sugarcane prices be increased to Rs 450 per quintal. The union will protest outside the office of the Deputy Commissioner in Chandigarh to raise awareness about their demands.
