Cane crushing operations begin in Namakkal

Coimbatore: Sugarcane crushing in Namakkal district began after district collector Shreya P Singh inaugurated the crushing operations at Salem cooperative sugar mill on Saturday, reports The Hindu.

The mill is expected to crush around 1.70 lakh tonnes of cane grown over 4006 acres of area.

During the 2021-22 season the mill has paid Rs 57.53 crore to the farmers against the supply of 2.08 lakh tonnes of cane. Steps were also taken to provide ₹ 2.83 crore as incentives (₹ 195 as incentives for one tonne) to the farmers for the year 2021-22 which were announced by the Tamil Nadu government.
