CBI raids 14 places in sugar mill scam during Mayawati’s tenure

Lucknow: In a new development in alleged sugar mills disinvestment scam in UP, CBI on July 9 raided 14 places, including the residence of Netram, former principal secretary of ex-Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati.

On April 25 this year, CBI had registered a case to probe alleged irregularities. This case pertains to the sale of 21 sugar mills during the Mayawati regime.

Beside raid at Netram’s residence, searches were also carried out at the residence of retired IAS officer Vinay Priya Dubey in Lucknow’s Aliganj area. Dubey was then MD of UP State Sugar Corporation. Apart from these CBI officials also raided at the residence of many others having a connection with this case.

It is alleged that the scam worth is around Rs 1,179 crore.

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister said that all the closed down sugar mills would be re-started and those sold illegally during the Mayawati regime would be taken back.
