CBIC warns taxpayers about phishing messages

New Delhi: The fake messages claiming that the government has started online processing of GST refund have mushroomed during the lockdown period. The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has appealed people to not fall prey to these sites.

One message is getting viral, which reads “Dear Taxpayers, due to COVID-19 outbreak, Central government has started online processing of GST refund.” After that, it asks users to click on read to claim the refund.

CBIC has alerted the users regarding the same on Twitter. In a tweet, CBIC posted, “Taxpayers Beware !!!
Please do not click on any fake link which promises to give refund. These are phishing messages and are not sent by CBIC or
@Infosys_GSTN. Visit http://gst.gov.in for online filings related to GST #IndiaFightsCorona #StaySafe”
