Country achieves 11.20% ethanol blending; revised allocations and contracts in focus

As of February 4, 2024, the country has successfully achieved an ethanol blending percentage of 11.20%. The revised allocation for ethanol supplies from (Sugar) molasses-based distilleries during the ongoing Ethanol Supply Season, which commenced on November 1, 2023, stands at 162 crore liters, a reduction from the initial allocation of 270 crore liters. Molasses-based distilleries have entered into contracts for 123.52 crore liters, while the supplies to Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) have reached 76.97 crore liters.

Breaking down the feedstock-based ethanol supplies for (Sugar) molasses-based distilleries, the revised allocation for ethanol from B Heavy molasses is now 115 crore liters, down from the initial allocation of 130 crore liters. The total contracts for B Heavy molasses amount to 73.93 crore liters, with actual supplies reaching 34.45 crore liters. The revised allocation for Sugarcane Juice (SCJ) is 43 crore liters, a decrease from the initial allocation of 136 crore liters. Total contracts from SCJ amount to 44.7 crore liters, with 41.17 crore liters of ethanol supplied. There is no revision in the allocation of ethanol supplies from C Heavy molasses, remaining at 4 crore liters, with supplies reaching 1.35 crore liters.

Shifting focus to grain-based ethanol distilleries, the allocation remains unchanged at 292 crore liters, with no revision. Out of this, the contracted quantity is 146.23 crore liters, and the total supplies amount to 45 crore liters. Ethanol supplies from Damaged Foodgrains (DFG) stand at 25.66 crore liters, compared to the contracted quantity of 84.92 crore liters. The government has provided policy support to boost ethanol production from Maize, with supplies from Maize reaching 19.34 crore liters as of the first week of February, against a total contracted quantity of 45.97 crore liters.

In total, the ethanol supplies from both molasses-based and grain-based distilleries amount to 121.97 crore liters, as against to the total contracted amount of 269.75 crore liters.
