DM instructs sugar mills to clear pending cane arrears within 14 days

Expressing concern over the delay in paying arrears of cane producing farmers, Bijnor District Magistrate Sujit Kumar issued a strict warning against the sugar mills and asked them to clear dues within 14 days. If they failed to make a payment, then they will have to face the heat.

DM was speaking at a meeting called to discuss the issue at collectorate office.

He expressed dissatisfaction after Bijnaur, Chandpur, Blair and Barkatpur sugar mills failed to make timely payment.

DM said, “Mills should pay farmers their dues by selling available sugar stocks or borrowing loan from banks. Government has provided aid to mills, and now they should assist cane growers.”

Barkatpur sugar mill failed to pay farmers despite government sanctioned loan for the mill. District sugarcane officer Yashpal Sinh stated that all sugar mills have agreed to pay bills within 14 days.

Sugarcane farmers in Uttar Pradesh hold the key to electoral success or failure of political parties in Lok Sabha election. Parties in the state are leaving no stone unturned to attack each other over the cane arrears issue.
