Dubai keen to invest in Guyana sugar industry

Dubai has shown interest in investing in the sugar industry of Guyana.

According to the media report, members of an eight-member delegation from the United Arab Emirates which visited Guyana in November initially expressed an interest.

Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha said, “Another team came back recently to look at sugar estates. The team from The Guyana Sugar Corporation accompanied the visiting team.”

Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) also plans to hire 3000 workers. Apart from Dubai, other countries too have shown interest. Recently, Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, His Excellency Dr KJ Srinivasa, said that at least three Indian companies have already expressed interest in entering into a joint venture with the Guyana Government, and more companies are likely to come on board.
