Farmers protest against state government and sugar mill administration

Doiwala, Uttarakhand: Sugarcane farmers from Doiwala organised a protest against the state government and sugar mill administration for not fixing the sugarcane purchase price. The farmers have threatened to intensify their agitation if the government fails to take action on their demand and ensure that the sugar mill clears pending cane dues.

Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Union Sangharsh Kisan Samiti gathered outside the gate of Doiwala sugar mill on Tuesday and launched sit-in agitation.

Farmers’ leader Rajendra Purohit said, three months have passed since the cane crushing season has begun but the state government has yet not announced the sugarcane SAP.

Farmers have demanded to fix Rs 450 per quintal sugarcane price on a priority basis.
