Farmers stage dharna outside Hasanpur sugar mill

Hasanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Bhartiya Kisan Union staged a dharna outside the Hasanpur sugar mill on Monday for their various demands.

According to the news report published in Jagran.com, addressing the gathering, Anand Kumar, state vice president of the organization, said, “Six sugarcane collection centres of Sambhal district are associated with the Hasanpur sugar mill. The area under sugarcane cultivation is increasing resulting in the increase in the sugarcane crop for crushing. However, the crushing capacity of the sugar mill continues to remain the same. As a result, the sugar mill is not able to purchase and crush all the cane grown in the region. The sugarcane farmers are therefore forced to sell their cane to the private sugar mills at a low rate.”

“The farmers want the government to set up a new sugarcane collection centre in the region so that they could send their cane to the nearby Karimganj sugar mill at Rampur. However, the Hasanpur sugar mill administration is not sending the proposal for the same. We are agitating to force the mill administration to make decisions regarding our demand,” he further added.
