Fiji cane farmers borrow loan from SCGF for harvesting preparation

Sugarcane farmers from Fiji have borrowed loan from Sugar Cane Growers Fund (SCGF) to meet their daily needs related to preparation for harvesting. According to SCGF, as many as 992 farmers have borrowed loan amounting to $2.72 million in the last four months this year.

Raj Sharma, chief executive officer, SCGF said, “The farmers need a loan to prepare their fields for next harvest season.”

“We grant a loan to the growers at a rate of 6 per cent which is less as compared to commercial bank rates which are high up to 12%,” he said.
