Fire destroys sugarcane crop in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra

Osmanabad: A fire caused due to sparks from the low-hanging power supply cables destroyed the sugarcane field, reports The Times of India.

The incident happened in two villages located in Kalamb taluka of Osmanabad district in Maharashtra.

The farmers from the village have demanded to register an offence against Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and transmission company authorities stating that they are facing losses due to negligence of the officials.

A case of accidental fire has been registered with Shiradon police station and police are investigating the case in detail.

Santosh Kaspate, sarpanch of Hingangaon village said “The power cables passing over the sugarcane field were the cause of fire at two places that led to the destruction of cane grown over 40 acres of land.”
