Goa CM to meet sugarcane farmers today

Panji, Goa: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has fixed an appointment with the sugarcane farmers on Friday. The meeting has been arranged after the cane farmers agitated against the government regarding issues pertaining to the Sanjivani Sugar mill.

The farmers had started an indefinite hunger strike on Wednesday protesting the delay in the government taking decisions on the revival of the sugar mill and other issues.

State cooperative minister Govind Gawade on Thursday assured the cane growers that the government is committed for the welfare of the sugarcane farmers.

According to the media report, he said, “We have offered cane growers a rise in the sugarcane harvesting price. The file was pending with the state government which will be cleared now and the funds would be released by August 7.”
