Government is taking all necessary steps to clear pending cane dues: Minister

The ten cooperative sugar mills of Haryana have procured 371.67 lakh quintal sugarcane by May 21 during this crushing season, said Cooperation Minister Banwari Lal.

Minister said, “Out of Rs 1262.54 crore payments to the cane farmers, the mills have cleared 897.12 crore arrears till date. Till date, the mills have crushed 370.52 lakh quintal Sugarcane. Last year the mills had crushed 354.96 lakh tonne during the same period.”

Speaking on pending cane dues, he said, “The government is taking steps to ensure that the sugar mills clear the pending cane arrears on the priority basis.”

“The Sugar mills are yet to pay Rs 365.42 crore to the cane farmers this season which is 29.4 per cent less than the pending arrears for the last season during the same period (517.17 crores),” Minister further added.

The sugar recovery has been increased this season to 10.08% as against 10.06% during last year for the same period, he said.
