Government once again extends time to export sugar under MIEQ

New Delhi: Mill-wise, Minimum Indicative Export Quotas (MIEQ) for sugar season 2018-19 was allocated vide DFPD’s order dated 28.9.2018. In a notification released today i.e. 25th February 2020, the Food & Public Distribution announced that the sugar mills which have partially exported their MIEQ for 2018-2019 sugar season till 30.09.2019, to export the balance quantity of their MIEQ of 2018-19 sugar season by 14.03.2020 over and above the Maximum Admissible Export Quantity allocated for 2019-2020 sugar season.

The Government is taking various steps to strike for maximum sugar exports from the country at a time when there is an estimated deficit of 8 to 9 million tons in 2019-20 SS in the global market and that Thailand’s exports are likely to be down by 3-4 mn tonnes due to lower production therein.

Yesterday, the Government reviewed the export performance of sugar mills nationwide and reallocated the unused Maximum Admissible Export Quantity to mills that were eligible and willing to export more sugar stocks.
