Government to initiate action against sugar mills

Bijnor: In spite of various notices issued to sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh to clear sugarcane arrears, millers failed to pay it.

Now, the government will not issue notices to mills asking to pay dues instead will initiate action against them. The mills will soon get notices in this regard.

According to the reports, in Bijnor district, four sugar mills have not paid around Rs 200 crore rupees. Bilai mill of Bajaj group has to pay Rs 100 crore, Bijnor sugar mill owes Rs 42 crore to sugarcane farmers. Chandpur and Bahadarpur owe Rs 37 and Rs 17 crore respectively.

Cane dues in the state are getting cleared at a snail pace; therefore CM Yogi Adityanath had served October 31 deadline to all mills for clearing the arrears, but they failed to pay it citing financial scarcity. Commissioner, Sugar and Cane, Sanjay R. Bhoosreddy issued a stern direction to sugar mills to clear all cane dues before starting the crushing season.
