Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath stated that the state government is committed to the welfare of the farmers that are relentlessly working during the coronavirus pandemic. He was speaking with the sugarcane growers through a virtual meeting on Friday after he was tested negative for the coronavirus infection.

He told farmers that the directions have been given to the sugar mills to continue operations till cane is standing in the fields. The government is in touch with the millers to ensure that they clear the cane bills of farmers in time. In the last four years, the mills have cleared cane dues worth Rs 1.35 lakh crore which was a big achievement of the state government, he said.

For the ongoing crushing season, the mills have paid Rs 18,230 crore which was 63% of the total dues, he said.
