Guyana projects total sugar production of 89,000 metric tonnes

The Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) has forecasted that the country is expected to produce 89,000 metric tonnes of sugar this year. This will be lower than last year’s production of 90,246 MT and lowest since 1926.

Till December 6, the sugar production in the country was 85,531 MT and it could achieve the target of 89,000 MT before the end of the season, said the GuySuCo.

The season is likely to end in two weeks. Several investors across the world have come forward to invest in the Guyana Sugar Corporation’s plans to develop the country’s sugar industry. GuySuCo plans to reopen the Enmore, Rose Hall and Skeldon sugar estates.
