Hapur: Sugar mill to end crushing operations by March 30

Hapur: The Simbhaoli sugar mill is likely to end the crushing operations soon due to an inadequate supply of sugarcane, despite open procurement and repeated appeals to farmers, reported Live Hindustan.

The mill issued a second notice on Wednesday, urging all farmers associated with the mill gate and the concerned external purchase centers to supply their sugarcane at the earliest. The notice highlights that all cane slips have been issued based on the basic quota, additional quota, and survey.

Since March 20, the mill staff has been visiting villages and personally requesting farmers to supply cane on time, along with using public announcements and loudspeakers to spread awareness. However, the availability of sugarcane has been decreasing instead of increasing.

The mill has been operating at slow pace due to the shortage.

Mill official informed that some farmers, excluding those who have kept their cane for seed, still have standing cane. Therefore, a second notice was issued to urge them to supply their cane as soon as possible. If the supply is not ensured by March 30, the current crushing season will be permanently closed.
