Haryana: Farmers stage protest for cane dues

Ambala: Sugarcane farmers associated with the Naraingarh Sugar mills Limited staged a protest on Monday demanding pending cane dues. The farmers also organized a Panchayat and announced to intensify their agitation if the mill fails to clear their dues in next 15 days.

The farmers will invite BKU leader Rakesh Tikait to join their protest. They have gathered under the banner of BKU outside the sugar mill and raised slogans demanding to clear cane dues immediately. Naraingarh Tehsildar Dinesh Dhillon and CEO of the sugar mill Narendra Malik rushed to the spot and pacified the farmers.

Baldev Singh, Mandal president, BKU said, “During a meeting held on February 5, the farmers were assured of clearing the dues for December. So far, the mill has cleared the dues till December 7 only. The mill has crushed sugarcane worth Rs 109 crore, but the payment of Rs 100 crore is yet to be cleared.”
