Haryana to increase sugarcane prices soon, says minister

Chandigarh: Haryana’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, JP Dalal, announced on Monday that the state government will soon increase the sugarcane prices, reported Hindustan Times.

Chairing a meeting of the Sugarcane Control Board, Dalal emphasized that Haryana has consistently maintained the highest sugarcane prices in the country. The discussions held during the meeting revolved around plans, encompassing the welfare of sugarcane farmers, the operational status of sugar mills, and sugar pricing.

Dalal reported that during the sugarcane crushing season of 2021-22, sugar mills crushed 755 lakh quintals of sugarcane, achieving a sugar recovery rate of 9.47%. The subsequent season, 2022-23, witnessed various sugar mills crushing 771 lakh quintals of sugarcane, yielding a sugar recovery rate of 9.70%. Furthermore, a estimated sugarcane production of 962 lakh quintals is anticipated for the upcoming year in 2023-24.
