Himachal Pradesh mulls new Green Hydrogen Policy to lead in clean energy transition

Chandigarh: Himachal Pradesh is designing a new ‘Green Hydrogen’ policy to take the lead in the Centre’s drive to become energy independent by 2047, reports The Hindu.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, “The state government is designing a new Green Hydrogen policy that will make the state a leading hub for its production by tapping the abundant renewable energy resources including wind, water and ample sunlight.”

“We are designing a policy to attract investment in large-scale renewable energy projects. This will make the state a pioneer in sustainable development apart from contributing to the global fight against climate change,” he said.

“The government has already signed a memorandum of understanding with Oil India Limited (OIL) to produce green hydrogen and green ammonia on a pilot basis,” said Sukhu.

Apart from this, the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) will be setting up a Green Hydrogen mobility project in the Chamba district, he said.
