Indian Mills In Full Fledge Preparations To Export Raw Sugar To China

The Chinese government releases its sugar quota until June in the mid-January, to ensure that Indian mills can switch over smoothly from manufacturing of white sugar to raw sugar; India has asked China to release its raw sugar export quota before Jan 2019. The Chinese delegation met senior officials from the Commerce & Industry Minister few days back to discuss on ways to escalate imports from India. After shipments of non-basmati rice from India, China has agreed to import raw sugar too.

According to sources, Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has entered a contract with China’s COFCO for exporting 15000 tonnes of raw sugar. As per sources, India is optimistic to export 2 million tonnes of sugar gradually.

To ensure that the mills do not face any difficulty in switching over from production of white sugar to raw sugar and run smooth to produce raws, an industry official has requested China to announce its raw sugar quota before January begins.
