Indonesia plans to import 991,000 tons of white sugar in 2023

Jakarta: Indonesia plans to import 991,000 tons of white crystal sugar for consumption, said Trade Minister Zulkifli Hasan, reports Tempo.co.

A closed meeting between the concerned ministries and institutions was convened following which the government took this decision.

“Around 991,000 tons of white crystal sugar will be used for consumption,” said the minister in Bogor.

The government has issued a permit to import 500,000 tons of sugar but only 300,000 tons have been imported so far, he said. The government will penalize the traders that have not sent sugar for consumption to Indonesia, he informed.
