Karnataka farmers to launch an agitation over delay in fixing sugarcane prices

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of the Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers’ Association have decided to launch a state-wide agitation over delay in fixing sugarcane prices, reports The New Indian Express.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the Association said, “For the last four months we have been staging agitations demanding a hike in sugarcane price but despite several meetings, Chief Minister Basavraj Bommai and others are not able to decide on a decision regarding our demand.”

“The politicians are not standing in support of 30 lakh sugarcane farmers as they are delaying fixing sugarcane prices which should be a minimum of Rs 3,500 per tonne,” he said.

“Shanthakumar Farmers have decided to block roads on October 27 and launch a protest in front of all DCs’ offices on October 31,” Shanthakumar added.
