Karnataka: Farmers want hike in sugarcane price

Mysuru: Sugarcane farmers under the banner of Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association are demanding to increase FRP, reports State of Mysore. A meeting in this regard was convened at Kuvempu Park near Gun House Circle.

Kurubur Shanthakumar, president of the Association who chaired the meeting said, “Sugarcane farmers in UP are getting more price than of Karnataka. The government has taken measures to improve the conditions of the sugarcane farmers by making the sector digital and connecting the sugar mills and cane farmers online. We want the state government to follow similar practices and ensure that farmers get more price.”

“Cane farmers in UP get their dues in time but here sugar mills are delaying cane payments citing several reasons and we want the government to take steps to improve conditions of the cane farmers,” he said.

Shanthakumar said that the Association will be forced to stage demonstration if the Government fails to address all issues concerning sugarcane farmers, which include announcement of cane price on the lines of the UP model.
