Karnataka: Sugarcane farmers upset as no package for sugar mills

Mandya: Sugarcane farmers from Mandya are not happy with the budget presented by the chief minister Yediyurappa as no announcement made for the revival of Mysugar and PSSK sugar mills.

Farmers alleged that CM has smashed their all hopes despite they supported him during recent elections. They claimed that Yediyurappa had earlier promised to revive defunct Mysugar and PSSK sugar mills in his home district Mandya. Farmers were hoping sops for these mills in the budget.

Nagaraju, a farmer said, “We were expecting a package for revival of the mills that would help us but the CM has disappointed us.”

Recently, the state government has proposed to use the PPP model for running loss-making sugar mills Pandavpura and Mysugar in Mandya district.
